Forever Friends

Hello! I had such a fantastic time in St. Charles, Missouri. It’s always a little taste of heaven to meet readers and share a few happy moments together. These two sisters from Nebraska drove six hours one way to come to the book signing! Now that’s a Sisterchicks® Road Trip! Thank you, Family Christian Bookstore and Harvester Church, for your kind hospitality. The Girls Night Out event was great fun and Hannah, I will never forget you. I’ll be posting all the photos from the May 7th events on my Facebook page so you can see how Hannah cracked me up and how cute Alyssa looked in her Todd T-shirt.

A NEW BOOK! The Forever Friends Journal

God’s timing is amazing. I was planning to tell you about our new journal in this newsletter and then something happened that made this announcement even more timely. A few weeks ago I was on the phone with Jason from Summerside Press. We were discussing the cover and I think we were both getting burned out on all the small details required before a book finally goes to press. Sometimes it can be a complicated process and you start to wonder if what you’re doing really matters.

I hung up and started opening a neglected stack of mail. On top was a four page typed letter from a tender-hearted father. From out of the manila envelope tumbled a program from his 15-year-old daughter’s memorial service. I stopped everything and read, “Elizabeth loved all your books. She was a walking, talking, passionate billboard for our Lord.”

He went on to explain how her passing was unexpected. “The medical examiner wasn’t able to determine the cause of death but we know she is now with the One she loved more than anyone else in the world – our Lord, Jesus Christ.”

I reached for the box of tissues and read this. “Elizabeth kept a journal. She wrote letters to her future husband. I have never read anything quite like it and probably never will again. Her last journal entry was a quote from one of your books: Christy Miller Vol 4, and was probably written just before she went into Glory. I know I will see her again. There is nothing like that knowledge to comfort a fathers’ heart.”

After I pulled myself together, I called Jason back and said, “What we’re doing matters. It really matters.” I read part of the letter to him and we expressed to each other a renewed sense of direction in what we’re doing with the Forever Friends Journal. This journal is going to accomplish a beautiful purpose. Many girls like Elizabeth will pick up a pen and use these pages as a private meeting place, just between them and God. That’s exactly what I desired when I wrote the section openers and gathered the verses and quotes for this journal.  I’m so pleased with how it turned out.  May this journal be a blessing to many girls just like Elizabeth.

I’m even more excited now about getting this beautiful book into the hands of young hearts everywhere.
