Under a Maui Moon
 On our first visit to Maui over three decades ago I left a big chunk of my heart buried in the golden sands beside the turquoise sea. Like a treasure hunter I’ve returned to this island every chance I get in order to visit that vibrant part of my spirit that prefers to stay hidden beneath the swishing coconut palms. During each visit my love for this beautiful corner of the world grows. Perhaps you’ve noticed that every few years I write a book with Maui as the setting.
And so it is again with my newest destination novel.
Under a Maui Moon, was inspired by an extended visit to Kihei three years ago. We were invited to housesit for a month and of course we said  YES! Every morning I tiptoed barefoot into our friend’s backyard garden where I lifted my hands to the heavens and thanked God for His abundant blessings. Every afternoon I swam in the ocean and praised Him again for all His unfathomable ways.
In between the singing and the swimming I read everything I could find about Ka’ahumanu, a strong woman of Old Hawai’i. I started imagining a character named Carissa who needed to “come apart” as her life was beginning to “come apart.” From those seeds sprouted this new tale – a blending of the then and the now – as viewed through the eyes of a woman at a crossroad in life who needs to get her heart back. Perhaps you can relate.
Every story I write comes with many prayers for you, the readers. Every story is sifted through many hours of listening and dreaming. I hope you catch a glimpse of how honored and how very happy I am to be able to offer this story to you with much aloha. May your heart be drawn closer to His as you linger in His presence, Under a Maui Moon.
