News & Events from Robin Jones Gunn:Writing for the Soul Conference:
The location was breathtakingly beautiful, but what made the conference so wonderful was having the chance to meet so many writers and visit with friends old and new. I offered the keynote address on Saturday evening, as well several workshops. If you'd like to listen to a clip from the keynote address, you can hear it here via my audio player. To order a CD or download an MP3 of any of the talks, just click the icon next to the audio clip in the audio player. Or, you can order directly from Best Christian Conferences.
Rave Reviews for Peculiar Treasures, Book 1 in the Katie Weldon Series Publishers Weekly says: “Gunn has been writing about Katie and her friends for years, most notably in the popular Christy Miller series, and this is first in Gunn's Katie Weldon series. Katie's dilemmas may seem like the stuff of unabashedly light fiction, but they aren't without gravity and intrigue. Gunn is adept at denuding light fiction of its usual tics—mediocre prose, clichéd characters and predictable plots—and imbuing it with the hallmarks of literary fiction. The characters are multidimensional and ring true at nearly every turn. The dialogue that ensues is at once heartbreaking and utterly familiar to anyone who has ever been in Katie's shoes. Moreover, Katie's religious faith never feels sentimentalized or tacked on, but is integrated beautifully into the charming plot.” Read more about Peculiar Treasures.
More News from Robin: Sisterchicks in Gondolas! wins the Christy Award
The Christys are awarded each year for excellence in Christian fiction. (Check out their web site for more information). Five years ago, my Glenbrooke novel Wildflowers was nominated for this prestigious award. The book didn’t win that year and I didn’t even make it to the award ceremony because I broke my ankle on the way to the airport. (Garage steps can be lethal :) This year I was thrilled to be nominated, thrilled to make it all the way to Atlanta without broken bones, and thrilled to receive the award and be able to say thank you to a lot of wonderful people from the podium. A lovely evening, indeed. |
