Last week I received a call that made my day.

I found out I’d won a contest I’d entered in February! The prize was a free lomi-lomi massage and the Hawaiian woman who gives these massages is amazing. My first massage with her was a gift from my husband at Christmas. She got in there between my tight shoulder blades and broke up all the old junk that was causing me so much pain every time I sat down to write. I felt like I could breathe again! It was transformational. Seriously.

So when I received the call and she told me I had won the contest I was giddy!

Then she told me even more good news. The contest wasn’t for just one massage. Oh, no. The prize for this was a contest – are you ready for this?  –  a massage a month for a year!

Now you can see why I was ecstatic! I’ve been working on a new book about Christy and Todd in their married years and the enthusiastic hours I’ve spent typing on airplanes and in the middle of the night in my snuggle chair have taken a toll on my neck and shoulder muscles. What a gift to be able to get “lomi-lomied” every month and be able to keep typing.

Perhaps you can see how this all relates to the chapter “You Have Been Called” in Spoken For. All the good stuff and extended blessings started with a call. I was called. And when I answered I was promised more than I had even imagined.

That’s how it is with God. He calls to us with boundless blessings but we must answer the call.

What a bummer it would have been if the massage therapist kept calling me and but I never answered. What an extravagant blessing I would have missed.

We have been called out of this world and its value system and invited in to God’s eternal kingdom. We belong to the One who made us, loves us, and knows what’s best for us. That’s why we will only be happy when we fix our hope and affections on his kingdom and all that is eternal.

Many times being called involves a deliberate action on our part in which we step away from whatever is holding us back from knowing him more fully. He has called us out of darkness and into light. My prayer for you today is that you will step out of darkness into God’s light. Step away from the lies of the evil one and into the truth of God’s Word.

Listen . . . do you hear the chime ringing in your heart? That’s God calling. Go ahead. Answer the call. I can only imagine what blessings He wants to pour out on you today.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light”  1 Peter 2:9, NIV
